How to Protect Your Hair While Swimming + Club Soda Rinsing

I love to swim! Ever since I was a little girl I've been swimming, but it's only as an adult that I've become aware of the damage that the pool's chlorine can do to hair. When I was little I got my hair braided the entire summer and was sure to wash after I'd been swimming. Now that I'm older, I'm just not a braids girl anymore.

How to Protect Your Hair While Swimming + Club Soda Rinsing

So, here's a swimming regimen for the braidless:
1. Tie up hair into some sort of secure style (lately this has been a single french braid)

2. Saturate hair with regular water from the sink or shower

3. Coat with conditioner or an oil

4. SWIM AWAY!

5. Do a rinse with club soda and proceed to cowash (I couldn't get my hands on the soda at sea last week to try [$$$]) -or- Wash away the chlorine with a clarifying shampoo

The club soda rinse is new to me, but would really come in handy if I was a weekly swimmer. Washing the hair with a clarifying shampoo too often is harsh. The soda is gentle and still removes the chemical from your hair.

This is a great tip. I'll pass it along to people with children that are going swimming this summer. Thanks.

That'd be great! That's one less child suffering from damage. ^_^
