Does Biotin Make Your Hair Grow?

Source: D Sharon Pruitt

The answer may be "Yes" and "No". According to this Naturally Curly article:

Research has demonstrated that biotin hair growth supplements do not seem to improve hair growth except in extreme cases including:
  • Severe deficiency from malnutrition
  • Removal of portions of the intestines
  • Malabsorption caused by gastrointestinal disease
  • Neurological diseases
  • Enzyme deficiency
  • Treatment with antiepileptic medication or broad-spectrum antibiotics
So there you have it. If you do not have dry, brittle nails and hair you are probably getting enough biotin. The extra biotin that you get from a tablet may just be money you are flushing down the toilet--literally. Biotin is water soluble, meaning that if you take more than your body needs the excess flushes out of your system then out of your toilet. After I finish this last bottle of biotin, I'm sticking to my regular multivitamin. No need to waste my money.
