Video - Style Revisited | Braid Out - 2016

It has been 3 years since I filmed my last braidout video and it has probably been two years since I've actually worn my hair in a braidout. However, I found myself longing for the extra length that the stretched out braidout gives and decided to revisit the style. I did this a bit differently than my original braidout and I like the results.

Steps

  1. I washed my hair according to my regular routine and ended with moisturizing my hair with the Sunny Isle Jamaican Black Castor Oil Knot Free Forever Leave-In Detangler.
  2. I placed my hair into 4 large twists then sat under the dryer for 30 minutes
  3. With now non-dripping hair, I applied Creme of nature Style & Shine Foaming Mousse to one of the sections and smoothed it through.
  4. After breaking this section down into about 1/3rd, I combed through with a wide-toothed comb to better distribute the product.
  5. Braid
  6. Repeat 3-5 until the section is complete, then move on to the next large section.
When I was done I had 18 braids total--5 in each back section, 3 to the left of my part, and 5 on the right of my part. I need this many braids because my hair is thick and won't take the braid pattern otherwise.

Maintenance

I maintained this style by sleeping in a pineapple bun--a high ponytail up to my forehead that was then fanned out and gently rolled into a bun--covered in a bonnet. I got three days before I needed to rebraid my hair and splash it with a bit more water. I then got another two days out of the reset.
