Protective Styles for Neck Length Hair

What is a protective style? A protective style is any hairstyle that tucks your ends away from the elements. Your ends are essential to retaining length and if they are constantly exposed to the air or the collars of shirts and coats, your hair could break off.

What if your hair is short? Browsing around on Hairlista and LHCF I see a lot of women desperate for protective styling ideas for NL or shorter hair. These women feel as if their hair is too short to do anything. I am currently NL and I never struggle to find a style so I thought I'd compose a list for people looking for ideas.

All Your Hair

Hide Your Hair
  • Sew-in
  • Full Cap Wig
  • Half Wig

Low Manipulation
(These styles are not protective because your ends are out, but they make for a good styling break)
Pick one of these styles each week and you'll never run out of ideas. You can really take these styles to the next level by playing with the front of the style and adding parts, humps, and accent braids. You can also accessorize with clips, bows, and headbands.

Thank you so much for the list that you provided! I've been trying to grow my hair out, but I had trouble finding protective styles for my hair length. Now with your list I can try a different style every week. Thanks again!!
