My Opinion:
I used the shampoo and conditioner as directed, then loaded my hair with Herbal Essence Hello Hydration to detangle. Then I rinsed and allowed my hair to airdry overnight. In the morning I applied the cream to my still damp hair and pulled my hair back into my puff bun.

I noticed that the shampoo had a clean and soapy scent. It was also a very thick consistency which worried me because I have issues getting shampoo out of my hair if it's thick. The shampoo did its job and I got most of it out except for a little in the front but that was rinsed away after I finished with the conditioner.

Now for the conditioner--I may be a wierdo--but I felt that it smelled like hotel lotion. lol. It went on smoothly and didn't leave my hair dry but certainly wasn't thick enough to detangle with. It also "pulled" out the rest of the shampoo left over.

That cream...oh that cream. I absolutely love it! There is a reason it has received an allure beauty award. It is non-greasy and you do not need a lot of it. It also doesn't have a strong or overpowering scent. I used it on damp hair and will continue to use it throughout the week as my moisturizer.

Bottom line, I was not blown away by these products with the exception of the cream. They did the job and that was about it. I think this line would be great if I were all natural and wearing my hair down because my hair's texture is more "noticeable" and fluffy. They are a bit too rich for my blood though. If you don't mind the cost, Fekkai won't hurt you.

HOTD: Bunning it Out

I have come to a place in my transition where almost NOTHING works on my hair.

I tried a braid out...poofy mess. I tried a bantu knot out...half curly poofy mess. It was so ridiculous I said "forget it," hopped in the shower, and squeezed the last of Herbal Essences Hydralicous over my tresses. I smoothed and detangled, then braided each section as I finished. I slept in the braids and woke up the next morning. I moisturized and sealead then slapped my hair into a
 "puff bun".

I am nearly done with the transition and I have decided to just "bun it out". That's right! No more braid outs, bantu knot outs, HairZing/EZ Comb updos. I'm not even breaking out the signature rolls. It's going to be "all bun all the time" from here on out. I am too through!

Did you come to a place in your transition where nothing works anymore?

HOTD: Braidout Updo: Day 2

I decided to rock the braidout updo a second day. I laid a scarf over my pillow then laid my head down. Its a little frizzy but I liked it enough to leave my house.

Is your Transition Confusing People?

As I get deeper into my transition I find that I am confusing people left and right.

I now have people thinking that it takes forever to go natural. You can go natural like *snaps fingers*. I am only transitioning because I don't want short natural hair. If I just wanted natural hair period I could have chopped my hair off long ago.

Some people think that I've been natural all along. I will admit that I am busted frequently. Transitioning isn't always the cutest thing! lol. I hate to think that I've been misrepresenting natural hair out here in these streets. I can't blame anyone who thinks this though. Not everyone knows what natural hair looks like. As a cultural group, we've been relaxed, fried, dyed, and laid to the side for years.

These are only two of the confusions that I can think of at the moment, but it goes to show you that not everyone "gets" transitioning.

I Took Down my Yarn Braids

It took me four days to put these things in and I wore them for eight weeks (two months). How long did it take me to take them down? A little over a day! My hair came out soft and kind of coated. I'm not sure why because I didn't use my regular moisturizer this entire eight week period. A few days later, I am still trying to remove all of the shed hair. I may look into a black tea rinse in the future to curb some of this shedding. The little "Os" that came out of my head were everywhere!

HOTD: Yarn Braid Style

I was starting to dislike the front of my braids so I rolled one side back and tied the ends of both sides together.

5 Reasons Why Natural Hair Isn't a Fad

I was inspired by a post over on BGLH to write 5 reasons why natural hair isn't a fad

1. It's the way we were born

2. The "secret" is out.
There weren't unruly strands under that relaxer! There were thirsty ill-treated strands in need of moisture and care.

3. The youth are doing it.
Concerned mom's are ingraining natural hair into the next generation. More young girls are going back natural or staying natural to begin with.

4. Knowledge is power.
We are now more aware than ever about exactly what is in a relaxer.

5. We are learning not to fear the unemployment line.
Natural hair is now accepted just about anywhere. Move over Visa!

Nivea: Why I'm not offended

About a week ago, this ad by Nivea began making an appearance on hair boards and blogs. Many people were offended, so many that Nivea ditched the ad. I waited for the hoopla to die down (and to gain internet access again) before putting in my two cents on this ad.

I am not offended.

Yeah, I wrote it and you read it. I don't feel that Nivea is making a statement against natural hair with this ad. After all, this man isn't relaxed. If he were then the ad would be making the statement that relaxed hair is civilized and natural hair isn't but that simply isn't the case here. If you were to see the man in the bottom left corner would you think he "gave a damn?" Now, how about the brother at the top of the ad? Do you feel that he is clean cut and neat? If your answers were no and yes in that order, then you see this ad the way I do.

No offense taken.

Month In Review: August

This month I wore...

  • Yarn braids all month!
    • I am still in my yarn braids, but it is coming to the end. I am in week 7 of the 8 weeks that I had planned to wear these. I am ready to wear my own hair once again!

This month I learned that...
  • I think for the first time I can say that I haven't learned much. My hair is hidden away!

This month I thought...
  • "I miss my hair!"
  • "I am about done with this transitioning business. I want to see...me."
